Thanks for posting on this subject.

I am extremely dubious about the proffered number of cases awaiting transfer to the hospitals. I heard the number 100 a couple of days ago. I have no stats for this, but I'd guess conservatively that a dozen or so defendants are found incompetent every day in Texas. If that's true or close to true, there are probably many hundreds awaiting transfer, and of course new cases every day. The department is using the word "crisis" even with their low number of 100 cases.

By the time my client gets into the hospital, he'll have enough time locked up to satisfy the likely sentence in this case. But he'll be in the hospital at least 4 months once he is transferred. Then another month in jail before his case is docketed. It's a goddam travesty. Vote Republican if this scenario strikes you as just.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8597101.post-1137794891063030522006-01-20T16:08:00.000-06:002006-01-20T16:08:00.000-06:00If anyone has any information about the person wit...If anyone has any information about the person with mental illness discussed in this article, please call me at 512 454 4816 x322, Lucy Wood, of Advocacy, Inc.
