Simply allow people charged with routine first offense DWI cases to obtain complete dismissals of their charges upon payment of $10,000 and completion of an intensive behavior modification program.

Regular DWI probation is generally ineffective for long term behavioral modification, while intensive programs are much more successful in doing so. Thousands of people would gratefully line up to pay $10,000 or more for a guaranteed dismissal option for a DWI charge.

My clients often pay me $10,000 for even a CHANCE of a DWI dismissal or not guilty verdict. Against a guaranteed dismissal option? The companies if taxed for this purpose would pass this cost through to consumers. Why not society as a whole instead of faultless consumers of alcohol? Or here's an idea let the person who caused the harm pay for it. Instead of prisoners working for 50 cents/hr how about paying them a market wage and have that go toward restitution instead of companies exploiting prisoners for slave labor.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8597101.post-35568281638517767052014-04-16T10:05:40.155-05:002014-04-16T10:05:40.155-05:00Studies show an alcoholic WILL drink when seeing l...Studies show an alcoholic WILL drink when seeing liquor ads on TV. Addicts are people/victims as are those they injure. WHY not get at the root of the problem -assess surcharges/taxes against liquor companies and eliminate TV ads as with tobacco. This might achieve a worthy goal of saving the lives of addicts who would also not create victims.
Let the liquor companies pay for rehab AND damages to victims until this is accomplished. The surcharge merely makes a tragic situation worse and helps noone.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
