Assistant chief handcuffs reluctant sex partner

A grand jury handed down a misdemeanor indictment last week against defrocked San Angelo assistant police chief Ron Dooley for allegedly handcuffing a woman who refused to have sex with him. I'm glad the DA's pursuing it -- many Texas police departments and prosecutors would sweep that kind of thing under the rug. But do you suppose a non-cop would get charged with a misdemeanor for that offense?

  1. If someone else restrained an out of control person in their home I doubt it would have even been investigated at all. In spite of all the headlines and rumors, Lt. Dooley was not charged with any type of sex related offense, but the issue is whether he had the right as a citizen to protect himself and his property by use of restraint.

  2. Ron Dooley, is a great guy who did his job and did it well. I certainly do not see any wrongdoing on his behalf. As for SAPD and Chief Vasquesz, well what is there to say...

  3. Ron deserves his job and compensation for all the drama he has had to put up with as a result of false accusations. There was no need for him to lose arbitration and not be able to return to work. He shouldn't be suspended indifinitely and for crying out loud where is the justice in all of this?

  7. The reason Ron Dooley was not charged with a more serious crime was because the victim was in the military and transferred elsewhere. She did not want to return to San Angelo, which is her right. However, this does not make Mr. Dooley a "great guy." If a non-LEO had done the same things Ron did, you better believe the outcome would have been different. All that being said, as a retired LEO, I find that Ron Dooley has absolutely no business still being employed as a LEO. A LEO's character must be beyond reproach. He didn't deny handcuffing the woman, although he said it was because she was out of control. Please. And for Chief Vasquesz to say that he was within his rights to handcuff her? Not to mention that the handcuffed woman did, in fact, perform a "sex act" on Dooley. Forced? Coerced? Not according to Dooley. She probably "needed" to perform the sex act on him to "calm down." This whole story reeks. It's something I would expect to see coming from Cook County, IL or Boston, two of the most corrupt locations in the country. Sad for TX. The fact that Dooley is employed at any level above a meter maid in law enforcement (he's with the Jersey City PD) only illustrates what a sad state we are living in. No wonder the public perception of LEOs is so low.
