    The original quote is "...extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice."

    The problem with a lot of sex offender laws comes in the ever broadening definition of who is a sex offender. This is particularly true with respect to juveniles where sexual experimentation with a peer who just happens to be under an arbitrarily legislated age limit.

    Also, mandatory registration laws fail to take into account the particular circumstances of the offense and perpetrator painting all with the same broad brush.

    There are certainly those that are a continuing threat to children and adults and deserve the burden of registration and restrictions on their liberty. But the law needs to be able to make the distinction between those that do and those that don't.
