Can't take a hint: Shanda Perkins back for Round Two

I'd seen this article in her hometown paper declaring Shanda Perkins, who the Texas Senate recently rejected by a 27-4 margin for a $95K per year slot on the Board of Pardons and Parole, thought there was still a chance for her nomination to get through this session, but it seemed like piling on to make too much of it. Yesterday, though, the Austin Statesman's Mike Ward reported that Ms. Perkins was meeting with senators in the capitol seeking to switch enough votes (she's 17 short) to resurrect her nomination in the 81st Legislature's waning days.

Asked about the chances of reviving her candidacy, Nominations Chair Mike Jackson told Ward, “What was the vote, 24-7? [Ed note: 27-4, actually.] She’s got a lot of work to do, I’d say.” Indeed she does, and not a lot of time left to do it in.

  1. You're kidding right? Can she not take the hint that only the most die-hard members of Perry's Cronie squad wants her in there...

  2. Not even with her new Sarah Palin hairdo.

  3. So find someone who is worthy Texas!!! Are there any other nominations? It doesn't look like it, so I suspect that is why she still thinks she has a chance. Find someone who is better qualified, or less partisan (or preferably both) and put them forward.

And if you dont have a nominee, I'll take half of the $90k and do it for you :) deal?

  4. 95K plus expenses (?) is very appealing, eh?

I'd do it for 50k, but lack the prime credentials as a fundraiser to make the short list...

  5. This woman is no fundraiser 11:11. No real fundraiser would covet such a low-paying job. And they wouldn't sully themselves doing the actual dirty work of passing out Kay Bailey hate literature at Republican tea parties.

This lady is a low rent idealogue, but she knows someone who knows someone. That's it.

  6. Maybe she has some dirt on Perry.

  7. At least she's not wearing her GOTH makeup for her latest picture! And, she had her hair done by someone other than Ronald McDonald! However, she is still not qualified.

  8. Ask anyone who has ever been in prison waiting for a favorable parole decision how important it is to have competency on the Parole Board!

The cost of prisons in Texas rides on parole decisions every day. The Texas budget cannot afford gifts to political "friends" when so much power rests with each member of the Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Remember, parole decisons are completely at the discretion of the parole board.

This woman definately needs to find something else to do!!!!!

  9. "So find someone who is worthy Texas!!!'

We don't have that option. Seeing that this is obviously a politically appointed position (with a rubber stamp from the legislature).. Hell, I'm surprised that Rick doesn't tap George W. for the job. He has a GREAT track record when it comes to detainee's rights.

  10. It's OVER Shanda. Just like your little Dildo Crusade, it's OVER...O-V-E-R!! Get over it and get a damn job!

Rick Perry really should be a MAN and tell her that it's over. What a creep!

  11. Hey gang, Rick Perry does not now and never has cared about anyones qualifications for anything. Our state government is full of people who have no background and no experience in doing whatever it is they are doing.

All Ricky P cares about is whether these people can rally the radical right during the next election. This Governor NEEDS TO GO and needs to go BAD!

I really hope Texans will wake up and take back the Governor's office from the good ole boy nonsense that has damn near ruined this state.

  12. @ 6.44 ~ if there was another candidate that the public and the rest of the Senate were behind, are you telling me there is no way that they would get the job?

  13. I know it's not nice to make personal attacks - especially when there are so many good reasons to dislike this woman without them - but YYYYEEEEEAAAAUUUGGGHHHH she is ugly! That picture is going to give me nightmares!

  14. Sunray,

With the current status of how things are run here, unless the otherwise qualified person is on the right-wing bandwagon, and fully supports the agenda of Mr. Perry and his ilk, you would not see them in front of Senate to be questioned.

  15. @10.08 ~ and is everyone in TX happy about that? If not, what should they do? People power got her denied, people power can do just about anything if there is enough of it. You really have to fight for what you believe in. Sufferagettes did it, Rosa Parks did it, even the British did it over the Poll Tax in the 1980s. Texans can do it if they choose to.

  17. The problem is Sunray, money is power in this state, and let's be honest most in the state wouldn't know a voting booth from a telephone booth. Democratic process was something that was beaten out of the common man here a long time ago. I strated voting last year, and will continue to do so, but I have no money, and I have no interest in things that money is behind thus that is a hard road to walk.

  18. Please, someone make this, whatever it is, go back to Burleson and leave us alone. First the dildos and now this. GO AWAY...PLEASE...GO AWAY AND LEAVE US ALONE. NO ONE WANTS THIS "TAMMY-FAYE-ESQUE" THING ON THE PAROLE BOARD OR ANYWHERE ELSE THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH "WE THE PEOPLE".
