Facility closure fallout

A small Intermediate Sanctions Facility housed at the Liberty County Jail will close in September thanks to budget cutbacks at TDCJ, emphasizing the reality that a) few real cuts were made at the agency and b) those cuts the Lege did adopt reduced funding for probation and diversion programs. Grits has argued that diversion programs like ISFs should have been expanded with reductions coming from more expensive, long-term prison beds.

Meanwhile, closure of several TYC facilities means changes for those that remain. This article describes new kids and staffers arriving at the Corsicana State School from other, mothballed facilities around the state. "The staff members are moving from Crockett, Mart, Beaumont, Brownwood and Austin. The first new employees arrived Tuesday, and more will continue until about mid-August."

  1. Ok, so now what? Same people, doing the same stuff. The laedership right now is the same leadership that has moved kids and staff from one "hot spot" to the next. There has been no change at all in the culture that brought about all of this. Central office is a little smaller, big magic nine of leadership mojo voodoo magicians are still in place!

Probation departments did thier jobs and reduced the number of kids sent to TYC, and they accomplished this without incident! Communities are still safe, kids are getting treatment, and this was done with a few meetings and county leadership in departments and state leadership upstairs! How? How can one state agency get the word out that we are about to change how we need to do things...and thigs change! They worked together and reduced commitments which also meant increased resposibilty. And the other agency with less to do, with fewer kids, fight to maintain the governmental cluster *&*^** that it always has been? Its leadership, leadership, leadership!
So good luck with fewer facilities, fewer kids, less staff...but if you keep operating the same old way, nothing changes!
Not the kid or the central office mentality of we know it all and here's another memo! Or asking the wrong questions and always blaming th staff...least I forget laying off the line folks and handing fat checks to the memo writers.

P.S. I didn't get laid off, so I'm not even mad! FYI some who did will no longer spout the company line!

  2. Amazing, what else can one say? Same old staff members, same old corruption. Wow, wonder how things will go at the facilities that end up with Al Price staff members? What a joke.......... the new agency is now doomed to fail as well!

  3. Agree with the two previous posts! The definition of insanity is doing the same old thing over again and again and expecting new results. Wow!

Well, to whichever facility gets Al Price's HRA, watch out for your male administrative staff members, she has trouble keeping her "morality" when a little power is involved!

  4. Lets just say "Best Practices", "Missouri Model", and any other buzz word that comes to mind.
TYC does not value their employees, if they did they would stop with all of the feel good garbage and actually show empathy for those who actually care about what happens.
It is not the staff CO but rather the programs you continue to try to run. CO will say no it is the implementation of the programs and of course this would be staffs fault, but look at the halfway houses and the youth you place there, these are not the same youth you places at these same locations 4 years ago. The progamming has changed and it is not effective. Stop with all the lies and blame and accept responsibility that staff are not safe.

  5. TYC is what it is, now and forever. Someone once said "a turd in a shiny, new package is still a turd". It 's still the same old... What is funny to me is all of the surprise, outrage and indignation over what anyone who ever spent a few minutes in TYC should have expected. Duh, it was supposed to change! When the focus is a paycheck and personal power, is it any wonder that the kids in the system often emerge bigger thugs than they were when they came to TYC? Missouri Model my ass! A program like that would require something TYC no longer has...a commitment to actually try to help these youth. You can blame CO. You can blame Whitmire. You can blame the staff. Why not stop blaming and try fixing TYC for real. Remeber, kids are supposed to be our future, and right now the future ain't looking so bright.

  7. Anon 7:16 thru Anon 7:17...

You numb nuts obviously can't read! This is an ADULT facility and TDCJ is the agency making the cuts!

Go put your hearing aids on so you can see what you are reading!

  8. 3:21 -may be you should read all of it before you start the name calling, because the second paragraph addresses TYC closures and the some of the staff moving to other campuses. Maybe you should bet your heard outta your a**.

  9. Facilty closure fallout or FACILITIES CLOSURE FALLOUT, surely you can read that the focal point is the FACILITY closure not the second paragraph "meanwhiling" more TYC "Facilities" crap.

Let TYC R.I.P., please quit dragging around the dead corpse! Another useless damn string on TYC? REALLY!

    IF THEY WOULD JUST DIE!!!!

  11. I got layed off today from my unit, but I already had applications in at other units and had two interviews today! I will most likely transfer within the system TDCJ/UTMB. Our unit of 1300 lost 2 nurses and 3 medication aides. I don't think this will work but it will take a year for them to realize it.

  12. We recently inherited a new Super at Evins by the name of Brooks and a couple from Crockett. I think they will bring good practices to Evins. We're aiming really high in hopes of landing among the stars! Yes, I do work at Evins and I love my job!

  13. Brooks was at Victory Field and Crockett. Both were shut down. Do you really think Evins has a shot at getting better under his leadership? People obviously can't see the writing on the wall. Within the next two years, 3 more facilities will close. Most likely, Evins, Gainseville, and Corsicana. After that, only the heinous offenders, capital, aggravated, and habitual felonies will be able to be committed. You think people would have seen the big picture by now!

  14. And if problems occur in the agency whom could we point the finger at regarding leadership.
This once great agency has been void of any real leadership for quite some time now, maybe this upcoming mereger will change the outlook.

  15. 7:37 may have a point. Evins escaped this round of cuts, but who knows what the future will bring. I can see a Central Texas juvenile corrections complex so that those poor, overworked executive staff don't have to drive so far to get to a facility and pretend they have any idea about juvenile corrections. As for Donald, how will he and his transplanted crew fair against the Mexican Mafia at Evins?

  16. CO staff that are overworked? REALLY!!
You heard what the ED said about the raises, these staff had to take on additional duties so they deserved the raises, you should know as the rest of the field that these CO staff are overworked, paid well but overworked.

  17. I wish Donald well down in the valley, this could get interesting.

  19. I told YOU PEOPLE, this quick name change and agency merge was just another fallout from several years of tyc life style or culture getting aired in public. Same worthless ass people who can’t work any place else but the states job corps pretending to give a shit about the same bad ass kids while practicing your pedofillia. It would be naive foolishness to expect anything positive to come from this. I have always found it amusing, even as a teenager, how you tyc emps can take yourselves so seriously. Reading your post on Grits is entertaining.
