A judge's writing "tinged with despair"

This is how it feels to serve as the resident voice of reason on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals:

  1. "Despair" was when Charlie Baird was writing majority opinions for the CCA.

  2. Since Charlie's tenure coincided with steep upward growth both in incarceration rates and convictions per arrest, it seemed to me prosecutors like yourself didn't make out so badly back in the day, 5:11.

  3. Charlie didn't feel he was "on the team." Rather, his opinions appear to recognize that the Constitution is not a "technicality." Were the three (maybe now four?) automatons occupying court seats similarly situated, perhaps the CCA wouldn't be such a laughingstock.
