- God and meth in Lufkin: Here's an interesting report from a large faith-based conference in Lufkin discussing meth treatment. Lufkin has a drug court that's been a statewide leader combating meth addiction.
- Swanky new digs: The Texas Criminal Justice Coalition has upgraded its website, and it's beautiful. Congratulations, folks. If you don't know TCJC, they do a lot of very important work in Texas promoting criminal justice reform, from producing Texas' only annual statewide analysis of racial profiling data, advocating for saner policies on sentencing and incarceration, to working for a fairer indigent defense system.
- Locked up moms: Thanks to Doc Berman and PrawfsBlawg for pointing to this AP story on women and mothers in prison.
- Reducing street crime: Crimprof Blog points to an article describing a new study by the British Columbia working group on reducing street crime. The working group called for increased use of community courts and stronger probation systems instead of increased incarceration, advocating an approach "that shifts the focus away from determining guilt or innocence, to instead place the emphasis on treating the illnesses and addictions of criminals." I can't find the report itself online, so let me know if you see the full thing.
- NY Times does criminal justice: The New York Times recently had editorials endorsing reforms in response to the ongoing Texas prison rape trial, pleaing for an immigration fix, and advocating greater voting rights for felons.
