Cocaine missing from LaSalle Sheriff's Office

I'm always misplacing my hat or sunglasses, so I can empathize with LaSalle County Sheriff Robbie Thomas. He has trouble losing things, too. Reported the San Antonio Express News ("Missing cocaine has sheriff under scrutiny," Sept. 6):
Thomas walked into his department's evidence room in the cramped fourth floor of the county courthouse last February to get some cocaine to use in a sting operation with the FBI.

He couldn't find it.

The disappearance of two packages of cocaine exposed the Sheriff's Department's inadequate procedures for handling narcotics: There were no procedures.

Whoops! Damn. I hate it when that happens.

  1. I'm sure they'll find it in somebody's nose. Gotta luv law enforcement.

  2. Now, now - I'm sure they'll find it lying around somewhere. Maybe some illiterate cop just misfiled the coke under "K" instead of "C"

  3. Well, Robbie was indicted and his arrest will follow, Joseph was already arrested. My guess is DA is close to find it.

  4. Is it sad or what? Robbie did so well with the department, so I thought. Now just because a couple of bad apples messed up the fruit bowl (other officers) does not mean the others have been corrupted or messed up. I really believe that Robbie got it over his head alittle too much and made a very bad mistake. Not Good! The consequences of his mistake (not notifying the council that drugs were missing), assuming he had something to do with the missing cocaine is a lesson to be learned by all. Don't think that you can get away with it. Our justice system is there to protect the innocent and condemn those that commit a crime. We will just have to wait and see what happens in the months ahead. God bless Cotulla.

  5. I HOPE IT WAS A MISTAKE ON ROBBIES BEHALF. AND THAT HE WAS NOT PART OF THE DISAPPEARNACE OF THE NARCOTICS. I KNOW ROBBIE DID A TREMENDOUS JOB KEEPING UP WITH THE DEPARTMENT, IT IS HARD WORK. BUT ALSO REMEMBER, IS IT HIS FAULT SINCE HE STARTED WORKING THERE MANY YEARS AGO THAT POOR AND OR LACK OF TRAINING ON BEHALF OF THE DEPARTMENT IS TO BLAME. RECENTLY MANY POLICE DEPARTMENTS ARE BEING SUED BY OFFICERS WHO HAVE BEEN TERMINATED AND OR ARRESTED ON THINGS THAT WERE DONE BY THEM DUE TO LACK OF TRAINING BY THE DEPARTMENT THEY WORK FOR. THINK ABOUT IT. MANY PEOPLE ARE QUICK TO JUDGE WHEN IT IS NOT THEM. BUT WHEN IT IS. THEY LOOK AT IT IN A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE. ALWAYS REMEBER IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE ADMIT TO IT. DONT HIDE FROM IT.

  6. Robbie Thomas no too long ago stated that he was allowed to keep his PO License, this is not completly true since he was already notified that his PO License was canceled. After 03-2008 this would be official and public information!

  9. working for the city of cotulla as, you better be sitting down, as a CITY CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER!!! he managed to find some idiot to let him in. robbie had been charged with perjury. the texas rangers and other law enforcement agencies offered to help with the investigation, but he refused. the cocaine "missing" was possibly used by him for an unauthorized drug sting he attempted in laredo. laredo law enforcement was not notified of his dealing drugs, i'm sorry, his attempted drug sting
