- Capitol Annex has had great legislative coverage since bill filing started at the Texas Legislature.
- Eileen can't keep track of who we're supposed to hate this week, and suggests that anti-immigrant bills in the headlines have transformed Texas into The State That Everyone Makes Fun Of. To be fair, some folks made fun of us before that.
- South Texas Chisme doesn't like several bills by Frank Corte, though I'd praised one of Corte's bills (Not on STC's list) in this post.
- The Wretched of the Earth says the change in political winds in Dallas also affected the public defender office. In fact, Wretched has a lot of good stuff up; just go there, start reading, and scroll down the page.
- Austin Criminal Defense Lawyer tries to make sense of pro-drug war thinking.
- Mike Cope and his commenters over at Preacher Mike discussed the Farmers Branch anti-immigrant ordinances: "While some focus on keeping illegal aliens out," he wrote, "I love hearing of churches that are figuring ways to care for them and to draw them into community: providing basic needs, language assistance, teaching, and friendship."
- Larry James gave another religious perspective on the Farmers Branch controversy, recalling the stern warning in Deut. 27:19, "God's curse on anyone who deprives foreigners ... of their rights."
- Doc Berman discusses technological solutions to drunk driving and the realities of mass US incarceration.
- Bruce Schneier says new passports with RFIDS are less reliable than the old ones. The old bar code works better. So why are they switching again?
- Burnt Orange Report points out an interesting history piece in the current issue of The Texas Observer, "The Spies of Texas," documenting police infiltration of dissident groups at UT-Austin in the '60s.
- Finally, speaking of UT, on Huevos Rancheros today I mentioned that most issues of Polemicist, a student magazine I co-founded while attending UT-Austin in 1989, have been put online by the student group UT-Watch. I'm flattered they'd go to the trouble.
