TDCJ loses 6,000 employees per year

A rep from the corrections officers union told the Sunset Advisory Committee TDCJ loses 6,000 guards per year. The agency, he said, needs to "professionalize its staff and pay them accordingly."

The advice to professionalize is especially well taken. See prior Grits coverage of problems with guard pay and retention.

  1. y'know, someone somewhere will be looking at these figures and thinking "well if there are 6000 ex TDCJ staff out there, we can get them back to staff at least 3 new prisons....."

    *sigh*

  2. If they could get them back they wouldn't be three thousand guards short!
