Tocando por la causa: Support education for immigrant kids in Austin

If you're in Austin tonight, looking for fun and/or a good cause to support, drop by La Habana Calle for a benefit raising money for the University Leadership Initiative, a project of the Texas Criminal Justice Coalition focusing on expanding educational opportunities for children of immigrants, in particular helping more of them go to college. Here are the particulars:
ULI hosts "A Cause to Rock/Tocando por la Causa" benefit concert! Come and have fun with local bands and DJs while supporting a good cause. The concert will be Friday, November 10 from 6-11:30 pm at La Habana Restaurant (709 E. 6th St.) Tickets $10 at the door. All proceeds will go to hosting Austin's Citizenship Workshop in January.
It oughtta be fun, and the kids working with the University Leadership Initiative, I can tell you, are a really special bunch. I've got a pair of extra tickets that I'll leave at the door for the first person who emails me to ask for them - (shensonATaustin.rr.com) Ed. note: taken. Otherwise, drop by La Habana tonight for music and fun, and maybe I'll see you there.

UPDATE: This was a fun event, but the kids didn't quite meet their fundraising goals. Donate here if you'd like to support the work of the University Leadership Initiative at the Texas Criminal Justice Coaltion.

  1. How about raising money for native children to go to college?

  2. You should certainly direct your charitable donations wherever your heart tells you.

Those who follow Judeo-Christian faith traditions, for example, can look to the Bible for guidance.

  3. I should also mention that their fundraising isn't for scholarships. ULI holds workshops for parents and graduating seniors telling them what they need to do to get their kids into college, among other good work.
