House chairs leaked through conservative blog

Wilco Wise claims to have the scoop on who the new Committee Chairs will be in the Texas House. Here's the list of criminal justice-related committee chairs according to this conservative blogger:
  • Corrections: Jerry Madden (R-Richardson)
  • Criminal Jurisprudence: Aaron Peña (D-Edinburg)
  • Law Enforcement: Joe Driver (R-Garland)
  • Juvenile Justice and Family Issues: Harold Dutton (D-Houston)
  • Judiciary: Will Hartnett (R-Dallas)
  • Defense and State-Federal Relations: Frank Corte (R-San Antonio)
  • Border and International Affairs: Norma Chavez (D-El Paso)
Of these, all but Aaron Peña chaired the same committees during the 79th session. (Former Criminal Jurisprudence Chair Terry Keel left the Legislature last year for an unsuccessful run at a statewide seat on the Court of Criminal Appeals.) If these rumors are accurate, congrats to Rep. Peña on the promotion.

Look for the chairs and committee memberships to be announced soon. Perhaps soon-to-be-Chairman Peña can even update us about his hopes and plans for the committee on his widely respected blog.

Hat tip: Capitol Annex.

  1. You got some of those committee assignments wrong:

30 Pieces of Silver Committee: Aaron Peña (D-Edinburg)
Kiss in the Garden of Gethsemane Committee: Harold Dutton (D-Houston)
Hanged on an Acacia Tree Committee: Norma Chavez (D-El Paso)

  2. It's good to see a true picture of what "bipartisanship" looks like to a Democrat. Thanks, BOR!

  3. I find it utterly mind boggling that Democrats apparently see not voting for Jim Pitts (!) as being a Judas. Every bad recent budget cut you can name, he's responsible for.

I would understand that sentiment if Senfronia Thompson had been the alternative, but in the present context this "Iscariot Caucus" stuff seems pretty silly to me.

  4. It is the support for Craddick which is troubling.

If you see no betrayal in supporting Craddick, your views are perfectly in line with the majority view among Republicans and perfectly out of line with the majority view among most Democrats; there is no disgrace in that, is there?

If you see no difference between Pitts and Craddick, perhaps you have inside knowledge about how Pitts participated in the worst violation of the Voting Rights Act in over a decade. I, on the other hand, can only go by what the Supreme Court defined as a violation and the legislative record of who perpetrated that violation.

  5. It's going to be a long session, Iscariot Caucus. Why don't you put away the long knives until it's over, THEN decide who deserves friendly fire and who's a Judas?
