I was flattered while in Kerrville when federal district judge and former Texas House Appropriations Committee Chairman Rob Junell came up to introduce himself and declared himself a blog reader. He first began reading blogs, he said, because Eileen Smith of In the Pink Texas was a staffer of his at the Legislature, and he'd stumbled onto Grits thanks to her, he said. (The judge asked me to tell her "hello," so "Hello, Eileen.")
Junell told a story during one of the workshops that cracked me up and I thought I'd share it. When he was first appointed to the federal bench, he said, he came home one night to the missus and bragged to her about the authority of his new position. I'm making life altering decisions every day, he told her, and everyone gives me so much respect. When I walk into the room everyone stands until I'm seated, and they all stand up whenever I leave. When I speak the courtroom becomes quiet as a tomb and everone pays close attention, he said. Honey, did you ever in your wildest dreams imagine you'd be married to someone so powerful?
"Rob," his wife replied, "you aren't in my wildest dreams."
Yes, he is in his own wildest dream because he doesn't allow the Constitutional Rights that he swore to UPHOLD when he took the bench. Nor does he listen to what is being said in his courtroom. It is his orders and no one else. He loves that power he has over people's lives. Recently he had to undo some life sentences he handed out that the Offenders where able to win, reducding to 20-30 years instead of life.I would not be proud to represent something that is as UNConstitutional as the Federal Sentencing which is UnAmerican as to what was set by the Founding Fathers of this GREAT United States of American.

ReplyDeleteyes you can tell he is power hungry, i hope for his n his family's sake he isnt a religious man because he will have his day before GOD n then he will pay for taking advantage of his power....dont forget we pay all of our doing ourselves or with our kids on this earth....
It amazes me how people can come on and completely take a comment out of context without knowing a fraction of who a person is. As in Federal Judge Junell (1999 Democrat House Appropriations chairman who authored the Trial Tort Reform Bill by the way) who has done more for Texas that most mud slinging double standard pundits can father. Tipical for someone to take a joke story and try to make a case out of it. Reminds me of Steve Mostyn.
