Happy Thanksgiving: Go Longhorns, OK State!

I'm taking a couple of days away from the blog to spend with the family and root for Oklahoma State full-time between now and the Bedlam game Saturday. ;)

Since this blog is all about justice, I'm naturally highly outraged at the idea that the Oklahoma Sooners might jump past my beloved Longhorns to play in the Big 12 Championship game after the Horns whipped them 45-35 on a neutral site. And it's not just the outcome between Texas and OU, but the way the Longhorns won: They took every blow the heavyweight Sooner offense could deliver - the same hailstorm that rained down on Texas Tech last week - but weathered the maelstrom and came back to win in the fourth quarter based on superior stamina and character. For Texas, after that game, to watch two teams it has beaten (Missouri and Oklahoma) play for the Big 12 Championship and potentially the national title, would be a true injustice.

In addition, to seal the deal, it'd be nice to see Texas beat A&M tonight like a rented mule.

Use this as an open thread to discuss any criminal justice topics, this weekend's football games or whatever is on your mind. And Happy Turkey Day.

  1. Glad you're rooting for OSU!

That would insure Tech's appearance in the Big XII Championship.

  2. Sadly Tech can't get there. Tech might make it if the division tie-breaker were head to head matchups or same-opponent point differentials, but it's not, it's the BCS computer rankings.

I hope they change that before next season.

  3. The BCS computer rankings have nothing to do with the Big XII Championship. This season just shows that a playoff system is needed..

It is actually possible that Texa Tech could win the Big XII and Texas the national championship..

    We need change!!! wheres Obama!!

  4. I'm also glad to see you rooting for OSU, Grits! As my graduate school alma mater, I have a special fondness for OSU and Stillwater. It was a great place for a life-long Texan (and UT-Arlington undergraduate) because the orange of OSU dislike OU even more than UT does. UT always had plenty of support up in Stillwater come OU-Texas weekend!

However, I am hearing the best thing for UT would be an OU victory, but just by the slimmest of margins. The whipping of A&M is accomplished!

  5. Grits - wish you'd been here the night Crabtree caught the winning touchdown against your whorns. One of the most exciting nites in Tech fball history. 'Course the next Saturday, we bitch-slapped OSU silly and it was no big thang.
Now OU in Norman was sickening.

  6. Is it true that the Aggies had to let UT win this year or they wouldn't come to College Station next year? Gig Em!

  8. Well texas tech sure as hell didn't get "style points" with that win over baylor, as if it's crabs were being treated.

    45-35: We'll never forget.

HOOK' EM BABY! 49 - 9 in style....

  10. After a beating at Oklahoma and a pathetic win at Baylor, it would be a shame if Texas Tech represented the South in the championship game!!!

  11. Whorn - since it's obvious that there will be a two or even three way tie for the south, why not have the tie breaker be the latest football team graduation rate? (student athletes?) That would be Tech 78%, Texas about 50%, Land Thieves 47%. This was suggested tonight by Leach, locally known as "The Strange One."

  12. Just read in the Austin American (on-line) that the first poll had Oaklahoma edging over UT; How can that be? Texas defeats them by 10 points (and OSU beat themselves, in my opinion). What a system!

  13. But Plato, what's the most popular major among those Tech football players?

    Hickbonics, or remedial english.

  14. Whitsfoe - I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin': Tech 39.....Texas 33.

  15. It doesn't matter, the deed is done.

Chokelahoma will once again lose the big game and the Big 12 will once again wish they had a true champion team that can win the big one representing them. Remember, you can't spell "cousin" without OU. Buncha over rated inbreds.

  16. Whitsfoe - have you considered that the whorns will be watching 2 teams they beat playing in the B12 champeenship next satiddy?

So - that's all from the Hub City.

  20. All I can say is GO BOOMER SOONERS! The best team in the Big 12 won the south division and will be playing for the championship.
Personally, I wish the game was between OU and UT it would be a different outcome even if it was played on UT's field.

You Texas fans just need to let it go.
