state agencies are awaiting word on just how much they will have to cut from their current budgets to make up for expected shortfalls this year — around $1.7 billion in reductions that are expected to be unveiled Friday. ...I remain convinced that TDCJ could sustainably cut 5% or even more from its budget, but not if the Legislature repeats errors from the past and ignores opportunities to safely slash inmate numbers.
Prison officials reportedly will be told they will escape with cuts of under $55 million, far less than the 5 percent being demanded from many other agencies. Those cuts will reduce travel, some special programs and will likely affect some treatment programs, according to officials familiar with the negotiations.
It'll also be interesting to discover what cuts are mandated at the Department of Public Safety. I think they should eliminate the TDEX database and focus resources on reducing line lengths at drivers license offices, but if I were a betting man I'd wager the converse will happen: TDEX will be immune to cuts and line lengths may increase if they must eliminate front-line staff. Veremos. We will see.
Im confused becuz my loved one has to pay to see the Dr. it comes out of his commissary so does that mean I am being doubled dipped?
ReplyDeleteGosh, I can't believe TDCJ didn't check with Oatmeal.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Legislature should take a look at the salaries of the top TDCJ administrators, especially the bloated over-paid general counsel's office. Weigh their income, including the double dipping re-hired retiree's, against how much has been paid out in lawsuit settlements and losses.
ReplyDeleteThen examine the junkets, the fleet of cars, the travel expenses, and "Merit" raises.
Then examine the recently discovered e-mail contract. Anybody remember Vita-Pro?
Well, it's tomorrow. How about an update.
