When will final TYC sex abuse trial begin?
I've got to agree with the Texas Civil Rights Project that it's long past time for the final trial to begin in the Texas Youth Commission sex-abuse scandals out in Pyote. Scott Medlock at TCRP blames state District Court. District Judge Jay Gibson for the delay, but the last judge assigned to the case, Bob Parks, wouldn't set the cases for trial, either. The conduct at issue now occurred six years ago and most of the evidence has been made public in the pages of the Texas Observer and the Dallas News more than three years ago. There have been many excuses offered for the delays, but we're reaching the point where tragedy transcends to farce. The AG has said they're ready to go. Vamos! Get on with it, already!
This is one more example of "Raped by The State". The victims, families and employees,together with the general public,all suffer as politicians and their judges 'play' with the criminal justice system.
ReplyDeleteTrials? Plural? In case you weren't paying attention Brookins was tried and convicted in April and sentenced to ten years in prison. It was in all the papers. Only the Hernandez trial is yet to occur.

If you count the ones from Austin that created the mess and covered for it, then there are still about 18 pending...or should be pending.
ReplyDeleteIsn't waiting this long going to give the accused the chance to claim that his civil right to a speedy trial has been violated? Seriously, this is the sort of thing that let people get away with crime.

ReplyDeleteYes, but like the police, judges cover for judges...its all part of the political/dumb game.
ReplyDeleteBrookins is a sociopath. Sociopaths always make mistakes, because of their arrogance. He made it easy to get himself convicted. John Paul Hernandez's case is totally separate from that of Brookins. John Paul may be guilty of inappropriate attractions to young men, but he's not a sociopath. The press has made it seem like there was a conspiracy of abuse, but that just wasn't the case. I don't know whether John Paul is guilty, or not, but I hope he gets a fair trial, and the more distance he gets from Brookins, the better chance of that.

ReplyDeleteSad to know that people are like sheep and are willing to throw innocent until proven guilty out the window. Hope you aren't ever charged with something you didn't do.

ReplyDelete9:49 - You sound like one of the new TYCer's that are newly brainwashed and know little about what TYC is really about. Your comments indicate you believe in justice - a theory that does not exist in TYC. Wake to reality or leave TYC.
ReplyDeleteWow, it is the 21st century. The entire country is still laughing at Texas. It is embarrassing to say that I live here sometimes. Yes, many District Courts in Texas are rife with collusion, injustice, and corruption. Even the so-called judges

ReplyDeleteI'm 9:49. I lost my job because of all the BS that the Ranger, the reporters, and the lege believed. I have nothing to gain by John Paul's conviction or acquittal. But we all lose if justice is decided by morons who cannot listen to the evidence and make an intelligent decision. All I want is for the man to get a fair trial. If he's guilty, so be it, but I suspect there's not really enough evidence. What I do know for a fact, is that the Brookins and Hernandez were separate entities. There was no conspiracy. Those of you that believe there were are misguided miscreants.
ReplyDeleteYou are part of that group that continues to protect the agency and cares less about youth. You probably knew about Hernandez and Brookins and looked the other way. They deserved what they got. Right? You took your state paycheck as you indorsed child abuse. Were you the lookout for these child abusers? Many like you will escape justice even though you were part of the child abuse scheme. Sleep lightly...you know you fell short of your duties.
