Jail poetry project profiled
For those of y'all who chipped in to help fund Kelsey Erin Shipman's Kickstarter campaign to publish a book of poetry by Travis County jail inmates, you may be interested in this feature profile of her and her project from the Texas Observer.
Per a story from the not-too-distant past, you want to rethink defending Judge Boyle in Ethan Crouch's "affluenza" case? http://crimeblog.dallasnews.com/2014/08/fred-couch-father-of-affluenza-teen-ethan-couch-arrested-for-impersonating-north-richland-hills-police-officer.html/
I think she has a good idea going here, I don't see why it couldn't be replicated in other counties. I am in support of anything that will help people and I think Ms. Shipman's project to go a long way toward helping those ladies get some things out of their heads and on to paper where they can finish dealing with them and learning about themselves in the process. I think she is on to something, but then I am a words person, as are you.

ReplyDeleteMy inmate husband would say Shipman "has a heart of gold". I would have to agree. This piece got my day off to a beautiful start. Thank you!
