You should be celebrated every day, Grits. I don't always agree with what you say - especially regarding the death penalty - but you always provide your readers with interesting and thought-provoking material and comments from an amazingly wide range of sources. Grits for President!
Can you get grits in TX jail or prison? Can you get "Grits..." Okay, yet it is also, National Blueberry Popsicle Day. Nearly every day of the year has SOME commercialization, so-called "National Xyz Day." Many foods are included, and some other things. Some restaurants have re-created a double holiday, say, six months away, so Nat.,Pancake Day is Sept 26 AND now in Febr.23 or 28--depending on which restaurant you believe. A lot of products have their own group to get more customers, nationally. I was surprised some years ago, when there were a number of Cheese days listed, yet no AMERICAN cheese---the main junk we invented to use for everything! (Finally, in 2011, they declared American Cheese MONTH, as October.) I think it's nearly all driven by salesmen, though sometimes there are memorials. There should probably be 'recall' days. (oKAY, SO don't change your name to American Cheese for Breakfast, as you won't have a holiday.)
The Reata way. Smoked Quail served up on Jalapeno-Cheddar Grits. Worth the drive to Ft. Worth. Get extra so you can have em for breakfast or just sleep late.
