Sex toys, guns walked away from Houston police evidence room

After more than 30 guns went missing from the Houston PD property room, General Counsel Craig Ferrell said this spring that ""We feel all the holes in security have been closed and the property room is safe."

Unfortunately, Mr. Ferrell spoke too soon. Now we learn that $50,000 worth of sex toys seized from an adult video store also went missing from the property room. In February, the federal 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Texas' statute (pdf) banning sex toys unconstitutional, and in May an attorney for the store requested the return of the items in writing.

From these incidents it's clear a comprehensive outside audit of the HPD property room is long overdue. HPD said this evidence was destroyed, but there was no destruction order so if that happened somebody violated department policy. Just as likely, the items could have been stolen, just like the guns discovered missing earlier this year. What else is missing from the Houston PD evidence room, one wonders, that they just haven't identified?

Oh, man, I almost sprayed my morning Pepsi on my monitor screen when I read the headline. Guns and...sex toys?. 'Freaky Friday', for sure...

Time for Inspector Clouseau and the case of the missing dildos.

Maybe some uniformed doofus donated them to the Houston PD Blue Santa Christmas toys program....

"a comprehensive outside audit "

Say what ?

At this juncture, the question of whether or not the sex toys get returned to the adult book store is a rather moot point isn't it? Once the swingin' cops grow tired of getting their freak on and sneak the evidence back into the foolproof saferoom, what good are a bunch of used sex toys to the adult book store?

Yeah. Reminds me of an ad in the Austin Chronicle a few years back: For sale, sex swing. Used one time.

Hey, but think about the cops wives, they are forever in the debt of the store!

Wives? Perhaps...but within the realm of police brutality, one can only imagine what a bunch of sadists in uniform can do with those toys during a strip search incident to arrest. You might have the right to remain silent but you'll confess pretty quickly when a big rubber c_ck is being shoved up your _ss!

If I was a defence attorney defending a drugs case I would demand that the drugs were tested in the court with a field testing kit. I wonder how many drug siezures would turn out to give negative results after a stay in the property room?

One wonders what else is missing? How about the lap top, guns, personal items and personal documents from the SUV of CIA contract operative Roland "Tony" Carnaby? Carnaby was the guy who got shot and killed by HPD when his SUV ran out of gas. He was on the phone with the FBI trying to get them off his tail but HPD refused the FBI request. Shot and killed him. It is said that Carnaby was in hot pursuit of ....a big deal regarding port/homeland security.

3:31 get your facts wright,he was nobody.

hehe... you said "plugged all the holes" in a story about sex toys.

Carnaby was reported to be running drugs, tossing them out the window during the chase, not on any mythical case involving suitcase nukes.

Those assigning probabilities to matters like this are the same keyboard warriors that argue which comic book hero is the strongest. Sheesh!

I've heard they already burned it. Such excuse means it is more than a hole. Probably an inside job.

this shows that police are getting addicted also about sex toys. If the police found it so interesting they should do something to get the thing they wanted to and that's nature for us humans. However, that's still against the law, especially they are part of the law as a police.

Hello Grits I just saw that headline and started giggling. Guns and sex toys what a combination. But how some can some just pick up that much stuff from the police room? Those cops are having too much fun if you ask me ;)

Little Toy Gun

Hey Grits, thanks for this info.

*My first question is how does it (a gun) make its way into the room in the first place if there no chain of custody records, police reports and/or documents showing where it came from?

*My second question is does Art.2.21 allow and provide for Exhibit clerks the duty and responsibility to personally destroy firearms? Thanks.
