R.I.P., Emmett Solomon

Emmett Solomon, a long-time TDCJ chaplain and founder of the Restorative Justice Ministries Network, a well-regarded clearinghouse and advocate for Texas prison ministries, passed away this week in Huntsville. He was a gentle soul, a good man, and will be missed. See the Huntsville Item for an extended obituary and details on Saturday's memorial service.

I had heard about Emmett for years and met him once. I believe he was everything his obituary said he was. Retirement for Emmett just meant a new direction for the work he was called to do. May his tribe increase.

I remember Emmett from my time with TDC many years ago. He was always a voice of reason for those facing difficult times, whether it was offenders, or their families. He will definitely be missed.
