This sounds ominous to me. When I see the words "Homeland Security" I start thinking about places to bury my guns and wondering if gold is a good investment right now. I have serious reservations about anyone who tried to implement a "statewide intelligence gathering initiative", especially if that person is going to head up our DPS.

This guy is BAD news! Homeland Security = Gestapo / FBI = KGB!

The words "intelligence gathering" when referring to conducting that activity within the United States is of grave concern to me. We are already wire-tapped thanks to Bush, spied on with HPD's drone and God knows what else.

What is the government afraid of and trust me they are afraid, very afraid!

I find it interesting that his appointment is pending a criminal background check. Shouldn't he have passed that prior to his Homeland Security position?

After Shonda Perkins, I'm not sure Rick Perry is qualified to "pick" out ripe tomatoes at the local market...much less anyone for office!!.......andy

Andy: He's not qualified for anything, but he's the guv. Somehow this guy just defies logic and keeps garnering an unjustifiably high approval rating. He scares me.

He could've done worse. He could've picked a loser like you.

Move to Iran or North Korea!

DPS director, chief of Homeland Security, whatever. These are only temporary titles. After Rick Perry follows through on his threat to secede from the union, his hand-picked crony will become the new Confederate General of the Republic of Texas. The state motto will be, "On your knees dog and hail to the King."
