Blogging Abolitionists

Say 'Howdy' to the new Texas Abolition Blog by T.J. Geiger from the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, joining several other new abolitionist blogs that have cropped up in the last few weeks. (And don't forget Stand Down Texas, which is a great one-stop shopping source for Texas-related death penalty news.)

Earlier I wrote about a talk I gave at the conference of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty calling for more anti-death penalty bloggers to develop new, more effective, winning messages. (David Eliot wrote this response.) It's good to see Texas well-represented in the mix.

• The indefatiguable Doc Berman has been focusing on the economic costs of capital punishment, and Justice-to-be Alito's death penalty views.
• I thought this was an interesting piece from Mother Jones about American Catholics who oppose the death penalty as part of promoting a "culture of life."
• If you didn't see it, check out the outstanding Birmingham News series, "Choosing Life in a Death Penalty State." The newspaper's in-depth analysis came on the heels of an ACLU of Alabama public policy report released in October, "Broken Justice: The Death Penalty in Alabama."
