Grits on brief hiatus
Grits will be on hiatus for a couple of weeks to spend some time with the family. See y'all sometime around mid-August or so. Until then, use this as an open thread to let me know what issues and events the blog ought to be paying attention to upon my return.

Just completed reading "Carnal Society"...The Texas-National Sex Scandal, and really enjoyed it! Well written and easy to read, the book provides all the details about the sexual scandal that brought down the once-honored commission. Finally, the horrible deeds of the criminals that affected the entire state and caught national attention. The reforms and current status of the new justice system. Great reviews and available everywhere. Too bad that so many good people were hurt, but at least the bad folks in charge got their Karma and reforms were made by the state lege. A must read!
Hope you're having a good time! I found this on Texas Prison Bid'ness. I would like to know if those indicted are/were guards or not.
The Weatherford Democrat http://weatherforddemocrat.com/local/x596957292/18-indicted-on-jail-contraband-charges
reports eighteen indictments for bringing in or possessing contraband items like cell phones and tobacco were handed down on July 25th by a Parker County grand jury. Thanks!
Hope we get to see lots of new pictures of graffiti. I don't see enough driving to work.
Why limit our interest to graffiti? Shouldn't we glorify other forms of vandalism as well?
The fine folks at the Georgetown Advocate have "outted" a man who killed his family at the age of 15 in 1967 in that town. Jim Wolcott was found to be an undiagnosed paranoid scizophrenic, declared not guilty by reason of insanity, and spent six years at Rusk, where he completed two years of college coursework. After Rusk, he completed college and legally changed his name, then moved away.
Now, 46 years later, he has had a distinguished career as a professor of Psychology at a private college in the Midwest, has had no further trouble with the authorities, and is well liked by his students and colleagues. This IS a success story! But a DA seeking vengeance and two small--time reporters looking for glory decided he hadn't paid enough 40-odd years ago - so they tracked him down and exposed his past to his employers, community, and every news outlet that would bite. He wasn't insane, he was just so bright he fooled everyone - six doctors who evaluated him, 12 male jurors, even the prosecutor who was put on the stand. The medical records are destroyed, witnesses are dead, but 46 years after the crime, everyone's smarter than the people who were involved in it. This is Texas-style injustice!
Another round of changes is coming for TJJD. What will happen to employees displaced by this change? Workers at TJJD facilities care about the youth and work very hard, seems like they should be treated with respect at times like this.
The amazing news is that Jim Wolcott found a cure for schizophrenia--something the medical profession has failed to do.
Something to think about.
Many of my friends would be upset to hear this, but I am frankly repulsed by the trend of many young men to let their pants sag below their butt. This trend resulted from the prison practice of removing belts from inmates.
In response, business, education, and faith based leaders have launched the ‘No More Sagging' campaign led by bestselling author, activist and television talk show host JL King. The campaign encourages young men to dress with a positive purpose and relay favorable messaging through a classic public image.
Maybe some of you secretly agree with me.
The new book "The Next Evil Empire", a true story was released on amazon.com a few days ago by Author Billy Joe Davis, its about the true story of being stalked by a Texas expolice officer whom had already been convicted of stalking before, unbeknownst to his victim! Its also about massive corruption in a very popular Texas city and how the stalker used an entire group of city agencies and several police departments against his victim, destroying the victims life! It is a shocking story you wont soon forget! Read for free introduction and chapter 1 on amazon.

Jim Wolcott's behavior before, at the time of and after the killings fit the patter of an undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenic - see NAMH website. He was evaluated by SIX doctors, found not guilty by reason of insanity by 12 male jurors and treated for six years at Rusk. When his Drs. declared him sane, 12 more jurors agreed, and he rejoined society. It is more than likely he has continued with meds and Drs to this day, as he hasn't had any furthur offenses in decades. You don't know his medical history. And there is still no purpose to this story except lurid curiosity, headlines and payback on the part of a new DA that was all of 3 years old when the killings took place.

this is some story!

But i have a simple solution for this.
1st time i tell you to stay away from me.
2nd time i tell the police to deal with you!
3rd time i simply KILL your ass and if the cops says shit. they get
"shut the fuck up! You had your chance of failed!
Now it's done!
