Legitimacy's premium

The South Texas Law Professor says that Andrea Yates' retrial is just the
premium we pay for the moral legitimacy of our criminal justice system. It's a statement that we will expend whatever is necessary to make sure it's fair. Sometimes the most egregious examples of "waste" are really the best examples of how much we really value integrity after all. Just shooting people would lower us to the level of the Taliban. Disallowing appeals could, in a sense, be the same thing.
Well said. And happy one month blogiversary to the good professor.
