Big Brother's High-Tech Sniffer Tested in South Texas
Bad court precedents allowing police to use "dog sniffs" to check for drugs at traffic stops now allow high-tech searches without probable cause. Even the name of the technology -- the "Hound system" -- is an homage to old-school dog searches. Unlike animals, the device can check both for drugs and explosives. It's being tested in Texas by the South Texas Specialized Crimes and Narcotics Task Force, one of Texas' Byrne-grant funded regional narcotics task forces.
