TDCJ closing visitation this weekend over swine flu

This notice has been place at the top of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website regarding visitation this weekend:
As a preventive measure, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is canceling visitation at all facilities for the weekend of May 2 – 3, 2009. Also, all programs that include visitors will be canceled for the weekend of May 2 – 3, 2009.

Further advisories regarding visitation shall be provided prior to visitation next weekend.

What is TDCJ doing about H1N1 (swine) Flu?

TYC VISITATION CANCELLED AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE AGAINST SWINE FLU
Visitation at all TYC institutions, halfway houses, and residential contract care sites has been cancelled for the weekend of May 1st – 3rd to protect youth and staff from possible exposure to the H1N1 virus, or swine flu. Presently, no cases have been reported at any TYC facilities. For additional information, please call your child’s facility. The BoP has a prison-by-prison cancellation policy in place for Federal prisons.

When asked for an ID at the gate, many of the family members visiting their son in TYC produce IDs from Mexico.

I hope this is short lived. I fly down from BWI once a month to visit my wife in Gatesville. I already have travel plans for May.

I just wanna know why the jails are going thru all of this trouble for a phone system-that just operates on landlines-thats is ridiculous-how many people even have a home phone anymore-why does everything have to be so difficult with these people?
