Happy Texas Independence Day, folks. Grits published a post last year on the topic that I think deserves reprise.

Sure, Texas is the only state to fight two wars defending slavery, but the state's founders were also revolting against an unfair criminal justice system and the failure to fully fund public schools. Sound familiar?
