I'm just going to pray that the lege gets blessed with good judgement and common sense.
And if you mean good judgement and common sense, you mean abolishing TYC, I certainly agree. There has been absolutely no good judgement from upper level administration and certainly not executive administration for quite some time. It's time for the lying and cheating of agency officials to stop! And now!!!
What guarantee is there that a new batch would be better?
Did the merger pass?
YEAH for chiefs on the board. Finally someone will listen to us. I am tired of getting the run around by VS and her staff who only care about lawsuits and NOT about what the departments have to go through to fix kds.
Lying and cheating? When is someone going to point the finger at Whitmire and ask him to step up and take responsibility for his very BIG part in this mess? Go take a look at the Senate Archives for March 15, 2005 and listen as Dwight Harris tries to give an "update on information already received" by Whitmires committee, only to be told "to keep us informed" and pushed aside so Whitmires constituents could speak. His constituents were more important than the youth at TYC. Put the blame where it belongs, which is certainly not on the current TYC administration.
I watched it. I laughed. I cried. It is amazing to see how eager some of the committee members are to accept any statements or plans put on the table before them by the leadership of the two agencies and Sunset staff. They appear totally confused by the issues before them as evidenced by some of the naive questions. They might as well just ask plaintively to Director Spriggs and Executive Commissioner Townsend - "we can trust you both -right?" "You are telling us the truth, aren't you?" "You really have a plan to reform TYC from its' evil ways, right?". I guess you can't blame them. They don't have much choice. Their own staff's have no Juvenile Justice or Criminal Justice expertise and so are unable to challenge the veracity of any proposals. They are overwhelmed by too many technical facts about a subject they don't understand and they are probably tired of looking for the boogy-man in TYC. In the end, we will have a new face on an old problem and move on to the next crisis. Expecting anything more is to be disappointed.
Let us Pray........
