End of Watch

The Huntsville Item published a moving account of the funeral for Texas Correctional Officer Susan Canfield who died trying to prevent two inmates from escaping during a prison work detail. Fittingly, a riderless horse accompanied the casket as more than 1,000 officers lined the street in tribute.

God bless her grieving family and friends, and may she rest in peace.

Why wasn't Rick Perry there??? Was he too busy sprucing up his new $10000 per month mansion, or maybe getting his hair done?

Actually there's a LOT of political hay to be made by attending funerals of soldiers and police. Our Democratic governor faced a well heeled centrist GOP challenger without a serious pro life third party challenge and garnered over 55% of the vote. Going to funerals in rural counties for soldiers lost in the illegal military occupations in the Middle East bolstered his status in Republican strongholds.
