Benefits support drug policy groups, Texas jail reform

If you're in Austin Sunday night, perhaps I'll see you at the Texas Jail Project benefit at Jovitas on South First. Carolyn Wonderland and Jo Carol Pierce are a good get - that should be a fun show! Here are the details:
Sunday night from 6 to 10 pm, Jovita's Restaurant hosts JAILHOUSE ROCK: BENEFIT FOR TEXAS JAIL PROJECT.

The Texas Jail Project is dedicated to improving the conditions for the thousands of people incarcerated in Texas jails. The benefit features performances by Carolyn Wonderland, Jo Carol Pierce and spoken word artist Genevieve Van Cleve.

Diane Wilson (Texas Jail Project co-founder, environmental activist, author of An Unreasonable Woman, past People United guest, national Code Pink co-founder, and a former Texas jail inmate) is scheduled to speak, along with Petra Montoya and others who have been affected by the conditions inside Texas city and county jails. Jovita's is located at 1619 South First Street in South Austin.
UPDATE: No sooner had I posted this than I received an email notifying me of another benefit in Austin on Friday night, Texas Freedom Fest, featuring Willie Nelson and others at The Backyard, benefitting the Marijuana Policy Project and NORML, which may interest some Grits readers. Go here for more information and to reserve tickets.

ALSO: The first time I posted this it caused Grits to be viewed funky in Internet Explorer, though fine in Mozilla Firefox, which is why it was temporarily pulled down. If you have problems viewing Grits in Internet Explorer, let me know (and I strongly recommend using Firefox - it seems to work better with most web browsing for me). Thanks!
