Law as Don Quixote

I'm posting this just because I thought it was neat, and to poke mild fun at my attorney friends:
The caption of this image from 1662 announces, "Law, like another Don Quixote, sits on Sancho's ass, being everyone's fool." It does seem like that some days, doesn't it? Via the South Sea Bubble Collection, which I found and blogged about yesterday on Huevos Rancheros.

Consider this: laws are written by the rich and powerful to protect and promote their interests - while maintaining an illusion of justice. It is supposed to loosely mirror Divine justice - which is supposed to be no respecter of persons. The reality has always been that there is one system of justice for the wealthy and another for the rest of us. And in most democracies there is a third for the disenfranchised.
